Our Secret Mission
Our Secret Mission: The Tweaksters - aka Regan and Julia - are on a secret mission to support people of all ages to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Our mission began after reading about the health trends spreading across the nation. Much of childhood and adulthood has been moved indoors centered around virtual fun rather then physical fun. This upsets us dearly, since being in shape is not only the backbone of our show, but also of our lives. Regan and I both, fell in love with sports, dance and movement in our childhoods. We grew up being supported to make healthy food choices, to exercise, to think positively, to challenge ourselves, to set goals, and to believe in our abilities. Decades later we continue to embrace and benefit from these healthful habits that were planted when we were young. Our show not only is a celebration of our learnings, but is a testimony to the benefits of making healthy lifestyle choices: BEING IN SHAPE IS A LOT OF FUN!!!!
It saddens us to hear that so many families are missing out on the fun. Statics reveal that:

* *
* Only 27% of American adults get enough leisure-time exercise to achieve cardiovascular fitness. (Update Plus, Jan/Feb. 2007. Aahperd.org)

* * * The percentage of American children who are obese has more then tripled in the last 4 decades.

This is not the first time in history, however, that people have turned to activity, as a means to improve their health and enrich their lives. Yoga dates back to the third of fourth century B.C. The martial arts, a sister discipline, developed along side yoga in other parts of Asia. Our ancient ancestors have paved the way for us to enjoy optimal health and aliveness. It appears that we have a lot more to learn from them!!!

Julia's grandmother, Martha, has been a great source of athletic inspiration for her. She was one of the first women to join collegiate sports back in the 1930's. Martha played varsity basketball. As she aged, she continued to value movement. Even at ninety-four years old, she trained with light weights and exercise bands. This enabled her to maintain her functional strength and live independently. Julia's grandmother is an amazing testimony, to what studies on aging are now revealing: changes in strength can be achieved later in life that are similar to those of younger counterparts with resistance training! (ACSM, "Training for Independence" Thomas P Mahady, Certified news, Jan-Feb. 2007)

Whether you are in your nineties, like Julia's grandmother, or on the other end of the age spectrum, living an active and healthy lifestyle has something to offer you. It is our dream that the Tweaksters can be a fun-filled source of inspiration to fuel your health and wellness dreams. In addition to the show, we also offer family fitness workshops, school assemblies, school residencies, educational & motivational material. Aspects of these services are presented in further detail on this website.

Stay Active,

Julia and Regan
